Biography

Stephen Coe is a nationally recognized and award-winning chef, best known for his victory against celebrity chef Bobby Flay in “Chopped: Beat Bobby Flay” on the Food Network. Born into the culinary world, Coe was filling doughnuts at his grandfather’s shop by the age of eight. His passion for cooking led him to compete on the junior culinary circuit, showcasing his talent among the nation’s most promising young chefs.

Coe pursued formal culinary education at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts, and Nutrition, along with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management for Hotel Restaurants. He further honed his skills by completing a certificate in French food and language at the Institute François des Alpes in Annecy, France.

Throughout his career, Chef Coe has held prestigious positions, including executive chef roles at Mirbeau Inn & Spa at The Pinehills and BOKX 109 American Prime at Hotel Indigo. He is currently the executive chef of the Marshfield Country Club in Massachusetts. His culinary journey also includes international experiences in France, Italy, Thailand, and California, which have significantly influenced his innovative cooking style.

In addition to his victory over Bobby Flay, Coe’s notable accomplishments include winning “Chopped: 6 times, Ultimate Redemption” in 2019, the Grand Prize in the Food Network’s “Tyler Florence Recipe Contest,” and the American Culinary Foundation’s “Boston Junior Chef of the Year.” He also holds titles such as “World Bacon Champion,” winner of the “World Food Championships,” and “Grill Master” from the Food Network series “Chopped Grill Masters.”

Chef Coe is a strong advocate of sustainable agriculture, sourcing his own honey and seasonal vegetation from local farms around the South Shore of Massachusetts. He volunteers his time and talents at organizations such as the Boston and Rhode Island food banks, Share Our Strength, the Matt Light Foundation, Hockey Cure for Kids, the Boston Rescue Mission, and Meals on Wheels.

Currently, Chef Coe is developing his show “Dangerous Eats,” which takes him across the world to catch ingredients and prepare unique and amazing dishes. He also recently starred as himself alongside Martin Kove and Erin Cahill in the feature film “A Taste of Love.” Additionally, he is working on his first cookbook, due out in 2022, and serves as a brand ambassador for Cypress Brand, an American luxury goods manufacturer offering high-quality, one-of-a-kind items crafted from authentic American alligator leather. Chef Coe is the owner of The Early Bird Cafe in Kingston, Ma. Rumhut in St. Thomas, 1756 Grotto and 40 strand in St. Croix. He owns Lobsta Love food truck, Culinary Swat food truck, and is currently building another food truck concept to launch 2025.
