Join us for an exciting culinary showdown at the NEBS Classic Que for A Cause BBQ Contest, a premier BBQ competition that brings together top-notch pitmasters from all over. This event is not just about cooking – it’s about passion, creativity, and community. Whether you're a seasoned BBQ pro or a newcomer eager to showcase your skills, this is the perfect opportunity to be part of something truly special.
NEBS Classic Event Categories:
- Chicken: Cook wild, farm-raised, or kosher chicken in any style of your choice. The Standard NEBS Garnish is required for this category.
- Ribs: Pork ribs only, including Loin Back, Baby Back, Spare, and St. Louis Ribs. Standard NEBS Garnish applies.
- Pork: Showcase your Boston Butt, Picnic, or whole pork shoulder (min. 4 lbs). No loin or tenderloin. Standard NEBS Garnish.
- Wrapped in Bacon: This new category challenges teams to get creative by wrapping anything in bacon! The possibilities are endless, with Open Garnish, letting you go wild with your imagination.
Cooking & Equipment:
- Teams must cook on-site with their own grills, smokers, or cookers. No shared equipment.
- Allowed cooking media includes wood, charcoal, or wood pellets. The use of electric augers and spits is permitted.
- Teams must provide all their own seasonings, sauces, and utensils.
- Cooking must be done in compliance with safety standards, and proper meat storage is essential.
Food Safety:
- A three-stage washing station (soapy, rinsing, and disinfecting water) must be provided by each team.
- Each team must have an ABC fire extinguisher and a meat thermometer for safety.
- Food safe gloves are recommended, and meat must be kept at safe temperatures before and after cooking.
Judging & Presentation:
- All entries will be judged on Appearance, Taste, and Texture by a panel of six judges.
- Garnish is optional, and the type of garnish varies by category. Judging will focus on how well the cook represents the category.
- Entries must be presented in the contest-provided 9x9 containers, with at least six identifiable portions.
Prizes:
- Category Prizes: Cash awards for the top three places in each category ($100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd).
- Grand Champion: $200 for the highest overall score from all categories.
- Reserve Grand Champion: $150 for the second-place overall winner.
- Team of the Year: Points from this contest will count towards the NEBS Team of the Year standings.
